What is your primary product or service?
The mission of Exceptional Teens & Adults is to provide opportunities for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to live independent and extraordinary lives.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
In 1995 founder Rose Walton, who has a son with intellectual disabilities, could not find a place for her son to stay while she worked. He was 15 years old, and research revealed that there were no programs in the area for teenagers or young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. In June of 1999, with personal savings and a loan from the Louisville Central Community Center, she opened Exceptional Teens & Adults Adult Daycare Center. In August of 1999 the Exceptional Teens & Adults Teen Center opened for school-aged teenagers. In 2002, Exceptional Teens & Adults Teen Center Inc. became a 501c (3) non-profit organization. In 2008 Exceptional Teens & Adults moved to its current location at 724 W Breckinridge, Louisville, KY 40203.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We offer personal, family like care to our participants. We involve families and guardians in our programming so that it is specific to each individual. We work with teenagers from age 12-adults.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
1. We are planning a renovation of our current location to include a gymnasium and teen center.
